18th C. Solid Mahogany Port Wardrobe (SOLD)

Circa 1780-1800, this monumental wardrobe comes from the port city of Bordeaux where much of the Mahogany from the Carribean would arrive in France. The abundance of the exotic wood there fostered the phenomenon of “port furniture” or pieces made of solid mahogany, rather than veneer. Furniture from Bordeaux from this time is as coveted as grand pieces of Parisian manufacture. Bordelaise makers were influenced by pieces from the capital that were shipped from there to the orient to be lacquered.

*With its original locking mechanisms and key.

Dimensions: H: 113 in.    L: 62 in.     D: 30 in.
