An extraordinary daybed, or banquette, likely a meuble de commande specially ordered for a unique interior of the day. The negative side is designed for use up against the wall, possibly recessed into a small alcove, or at the foot of a large bed. The mahogany armrests terminate in richly sculpted scrolls, adorned with neoclassical foliage, which rest on lions paws (an unusual but attractive design from the restoration period seen on some chairs by the celebrated maker Jean-Jacques Werner). The original upholstery has been replaced and rebuilt with new horse hair and burlap, and the network of copper springs retied. The piece was recently recovered with a period correct silk from Prelle et Cie..
